As a people, African Americans have failed to address one of the most serious issues that confront them, the issue of their lost humanity. The failure in part is due to becoming too consumed by race. African Americans have become people of the race. Race affects everything they think, feel, see, hear and speak. Race is the beginning, middle and end of all things. It's considered before family, friends, nation, culture and God. With maybe one exception, African Americans are the most race conscious people in America. The sad news is, the race cannot save them. Race as it is currently viewed represents the last living vestige of slavery. Until the shackles and chains of racial identity are removed, African Americans cannot restore their humanity.
The keys to remove them are found in this book. The readers will find them in the form of seeds, that when planted and nurtured, will create a new civilization.
Price: ABOUT THE BOOK
FROM FREEDOM TO SLAVERY
The family is the foundation of human civilization, the
weight of the whole society rest on the family. At no time
in history was the weight greater, and the family weaker
than it is today. Prior to the arrival of Europeans in the
15th Century, African families were among the strongest in
the world. They were strong because they controlled every
aspect of family formation. Traditions were such that there
were no unintended pregnancies, out of wedlock births or
unknown fathers. Sex took place only within marriage and
all conceptions were planned and announced to the family
beforehand. Maintaining the integrity of the family was
placed above all things.
When we look at the family of our ancestors and the family
that we produce today it’s very difficult to find many
similarities. In a typical African American family less
than 5% of the conceptions are planned. Of the pregnancies
that occur ninety percent or more are unintended. Thirty
four percent of these pregnancies end in abortion. Of those
who survive the womb 70% are born out of wedlock and of
this number at least 50% live in a single parent home. Of
those who marry 56% get divorced and to add insult to
injury there are some (4) million African Americans who do
not know the identity of their biological father.
Unlike our ancestors, family is not being perpetuated by
the desire for family, this tradition has been lost. If
intent were required for procreation more than likely
African American people would become extinct. Family is not
something that most African Americans consciously pursue.
Family is coming to them in the form of an imposition, much
like it did during slavery. During slavery the decision to
produce a family was not made by the enslaved, it was made
by the slave owner. The enslaved had no say so in how the
family was formed or how it operated. In my opinion not
having this freedom for two hundred years produced a
mindset that will not allow African Americans to control
the formation of their families. This mindset stands as the
single greatest impediment to achievement.
Racism, discrimination, civil rights, equal justice, and
economic development are indeed critical issues but the
most critical issue affecting African Americans today is
how we form our families. Until we address this issue there
will be no liberation. The struggle for liberation will not
be won in the streets, in the courts, or in the workplace.
To win this struggle it has to take place in the home, one
family at a time. This book is a blue print for those who
want to seriously take up the struggle. It is a vivid
illustration of how to form a strong family. To do so we
must adopt traditions that, allow the family to reconnect
to its seed. Only then can we rekindle the desire for
family.
